Interactive Lab Notebooks

One thing we learned running our 2020-2022 webinar series: students learn best by doing, whether they are senior faculty or first-year graduate students. So alongside each webinar we are building interactive, dynamic notebooks that let you work directly with data and methods instead of watching someone else do it.

We build in Julia (Pluto), R (Shiny), and Jupyter, and we pick the notebook form that best fits the method. The notebooks connect data and analysis in one place: change a parameter, see the mapping result move; load a public omics dataset, reproduce the figure.

The SAM core is also publishing notebooks that give non-programmers access to the advanced statistical tools we develop, from pangenome-aware QTL mapping to multi-omic integration with matrix factorization and matrix linear models.

Together with recorded webinars and short microlectures, the notebooks are part of our casual learning approach: you choose what you want to learn, when you want to learn it, and how deep you want to go.

The first set of notebooks will accompany the relaunched webinar series. Subscribe and we will let you know when they are up.
